Community Update; Celebration and Legacy
Dear friends and supporters of the Tatamagouche Centre,
I hope this finds you well in welcoming the first flush of spring.
Earlier this year the Tatamagouche Centre Board reached out to the community for help with some projects. I offered to bring together folks who want to help make sure that two things happen:
A celebration of life event for the Centre to honour the impacts it has had on so many people, and to welcome again stewardship of the lands by Women of First Light.
A legacy document, audio tape or video to record these impacts.
These two projects will incorporate our 30 plus year history of Peace and Friendship, and, we hope, bring energy and support to the much bigger effort of rematriating the lands under the stewardship of Women of First Light.
This week I met with some Tata Centre friends who expressed interest in contributing to one or both of these projects (Cam Ure, Wayne Edgar, Natalie Abdou, Nanci Lee and Debbie Castle)
Celebration of life: We saw this as our planning priority, as it is more time sensitive. We chose SaturdaySeptember 19th for a ‘grieving, celebration and moving forward’ event at the Centre. Please put a hold on this day in your calendars. In choosing September 19th as our gathering day, we have time to plan, we won't conflict with summer holidays and the Centre will still be available for a day event.
Legacy: Wayne, Nanci and Debbie are particularly interested in exploring what a legacy project might look like. We want to create a beautiful record of some of the ways the Centre changed and enriched peoples’ lives.
Call out to our community
Our celebration and legacy committee meets again on a May 25th at 6 pm to start planning the components of the celebration.
We warmly welcome anyone who would like to join us in this discussion. If you are interested in helping out, either for the celebration or the legacy project, please contact me at k_fish@auracom.com.

Our celebration thinking at this point:
We've had one fun brainstorming meeting. The framework we are thinking of is a 10 am - 4/5 pm gathering with a pot luck lunch. We've thought of an organizing pattern of the seasons, with opportunities for grieving, honouring, and looking forward with Women of First Light. We'd like to create time for story-telling and being with friends and colleagues around dance, trail walking, crafts, etc. Nanci would love us to build on the historical land walk that was produced while she was our Executive Director. It tells the story of the Centre from its earliest days.
Thank you for your continuing support of the Tatamagouche Centre through this transition period.
