CARING FOR OURSELVES WHILE CARING FOR COMMUNITY

Join our facilitator , Joël Jones, in community as she shares her experiences, thoughts and application of a Personal-Community Care Approach/Framework.  This workshop is a place to share our knowing and come together as peers in community to share our stories of resistance, share and learn techniques for staying healthy and recognizing when we need support, and discussing innovative ways to find solutions to our challenges

Together we will discuss: 

Personal-Community Care Approach: A 2-pronged holistic approach to care

  • How to care for others while caring for ourselves

Trauma & Oppression: the effects on our personal-community care 

  • Looking at personal-community care in the context of trauma and oppression (individual/systemic/institutional)

  • Challenges, wins/stories of resistance

  • Innovative solutions

  • Co-regulation & emotional load

  • Breakout discussions & Peer sharing

We will meet on Zoom on February 23rd, 2023. 1:00 to 4:00 pm AST. 3 hours workshop (20 min break)

Joël Jones is a Trauma Informed Holistic Health Practitioner who works with women, community organizations, corporate and government clients to embrace and integrate an inclusive and holistic framework into their lives/communities/workplace culture. Joël has a diverse professional background that started in corporate event planning and team building. While working for the Ontario Science Centre Joël facilitated/managed events for clients such as Honda, Telus, various government ministries including agriculture, transportation and environment Ontario, foreign hosted events including government officials and cultural celebrations (concerts, large social events etc), wellness conferences, community cultural celebrations from around the city and many other unique events and clients that focused on experiential and educational programing. While continuing her work in events, Joël earned her 200hr yoga certification in 2014 and went on to graduate from the Institute for Holistic Nutrition with first class honours and started her journey as a Certified Nutritional Practitioner in 2016. 

In 2018 Joël   moved to Ottawa, Ontario where she continues to support individuals on their health journey, and integrates a holistic and inclusive framework in all of the work she does.  Joël has integrated her own diversity, and extensive knowledge of food & nutrition, holistic practices/modalities and well-being into her work with organizations such as Up With Women as program manager / group facilitator and community partnership liaison and the Centre for all Women's Initiative (CAWI) as a facilitator, community-based researcher, adult educator and Business Manager of the CAWI social enterprise. Joël is keenly aware of the issues surrounding food (in)security in Canada and the barriers to access health services and education experienced by many people and communities across the country.  She also understands the importance of food in the well-being and healing of individuals, families and communities. Joël   integrates a holistic framework in her approach in EDI and AR/AO work to help educate, coach and inspire diverse adults and communities. An extension of this EDI and AR/AO approach is her work to support diverse survivors of gender-based violence in collaboration with Canadian Centre for Women’s Empowerment. Joël is currently the E-Learning Instructional Designer and Curriculum Developer at CAUSEWAY Work Centre - an organization dedicated to connecting community members living with mental health challenges with meaningful employment.

As a part of her passion for food and nutrition Joël has a YouTube channel where she prepares delicious and healthy meals that are flexible and easily integrated into any diet.
